Lio Caliente, The Hot Mess

There is something very relaxing about perusing weekend markets for beautiful trinkets and handmade jewelry. For me, collecting jewels and artifacts from around the world has become like a wearable scrapbook. The best part about this type of keepsake is that you can continue to create all kinds of new memories by re-wearing the items in new ways. Suddenly, that little black dress is transformed with gorgeous feather earrings from Paris, perfectly adorned bangle bracelets from India, or offset with a delicately woven scarf from Spitalfields Market in London.  Now, you don’t need to go so far to grow your assortment of jewels as The Gallery Shop at The Art Gallery of Calgary carries beautiful jewelry and accessories made by artists from across Canada. Our location is a perfect spot for a Saturday afternoon walk, only a stone’s throw away from delicious cafes, pubs, shopping and boutiques on Stephen Avenue.
The Gallery Shop at The Art Gallery of Calgary has become a purveyor of fine jewelry and artistic wares. One of our own staff members, Jessica Knights, is an incredibly talented jeweler, creating bohemian inspired earrings, necklaces and hairpieces. What started as “Craft Tuesday”, on a Thursday, soon turned into Lio Caliente, says Jessica. The company was started by Kat Walker, Jessica Knights, Basia Chmielowiec and Magda Olszewski and quickly began to pique the curiosity of interested buyers city wide.

Lio Caliente, which means “hot mess” in Spanish, really draws its inspiration from the beauty of nature and the free spirit which is in all of us. Their collection is intricately adorned with colourful feathers, luminescent beads and each piece is created with love and passion.

Jessica Knights truly epitomizes her brand; it’s compelling and sophisticated and her personality is visible in every creation.  From her very core, Jess exudes a unique sense of style and endearing charm. Not only is she beautiful, but her warmth and youthful sensibility truly reiterates her connection to nature and compassion for others.  We are thrilled to announce that Lio Caliente is now available in The Gallery Shop at The Art Gallery of Calgary.
